Shootings in Philadelphia Are Down by Nearly 40 Percent. What Does It Mean?
Through August 11, 440 fewer people had been shot compared to the same time last year, marking a 39.2 percent decline, according to data from the City Controller’s Office. Homicides are also plummeting. As of August 13, there had been 167 slayings in 2024, representing a 37 percent decline from the 265 recorded at the same time last year, according to Philadelphia Police Department data.
